Congregation of Moses Calendar

You’re invited to prepare selected recipes drawn from Leah Koenig’s cookbooks and help create a generous shared spread for the afternoon of Leah’s cooking event. There’s a good list of choices from which to choose, including the two dishes Leah will demonstrate at the event.Peruse the selection of sweet and savory dishes, claim a recipe you’d like to try, bring a friend if you care to, and join us in the CoM kitchen on October 8 or October 22 to cook or bake together. There will be both morning and evening times scheduled to use the kitchen on those dates. If necessary, you can also request a specific date that is better for you to do your cooking or baking.CoM volunteers will save you shopping time by purchasing all the kosher-certified ingredients for your recipe in advance. Prefer to shop for your own? That works too; please make sure every ingredient carries kosher certification.Your finished dish will take its place on a special table at the event, with the recipe title and your name: a delicious, visible contribution to the evening and to the gathering Leah will inspire.Bring your culinary experience, maybe a favorite kitchen companion, and a willingness to make something good together. Choose a recipe and sign up to cook or bake. C’mon, it’ll be fun!

The Jewish Aramaic incantation bowls are a collection of protective artifacts from Babylonian times, found in what is now Iraq and Iran. In this kid-friendly educational event, we’ll learn about the bowls and their context in Babylonian Jewish life, and then we’ll draw our own bowl designs with wishes for the new year. Each participants design will be printed onto melamine bowls to be used for years to come. This would make a fantastic birthday or Hanukkah gift.Participants will be provided with a pizza lunch. Event is geared toward kids and families, but everyone is welcome!
